Lloyd Frette, 79, of Waukee, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 12 at the Basilica of St. John, 1915 University Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 11 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Lloyd was born June 6, 1932 in Story City, Iowa. He married his beloved wife Marilyn on January 10, 1959 at the Basilica of St. John in Des Moines. Lloyd and Marilyn lived in Urbandale until they moved to their Waukee home in 1976. Lloyd attended Iowa State University and was a loyal Cyclone and Hawkeye fan. Lloyd started the auto body program at the Des Moines Skill Center which moved to Des Moines Area Community College. He continued to teach at DMACC until he retired after 25 years of service. Lloyd was a member of the American Legion, DMACC Pioneers Club, the Early Wheels of Iowa Car Club and the Iowa and National Studebaker Drivers Club. He enjoyed restoring and collecting Studebakers, participating in car shows, and swap meets with his friends. He served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean War and 6 years in the Army Reserves.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Marilyn; his daughter, Cindy Eoriatti of Urbandale; his brother, Earl Frette of Story City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Elmer Frette, and eight brothers and sisters.

Lloyd was a loving and devoted, husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Mercy Hospice and Arbor Springs for all of their care and kindness during Lloyd’s stay.
