Dorene Bernard

Dorene Bernard, 53, of Des Moines died on April 30, 2007 at the McKinley Group Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday.
Dorene was born on May 26, 1953 and is survived by her father Pete, her sisters Linda (Barry) Campbell and Mary (Lyle) Williams, her brother Rick Bernard, her nieces and nephews Marlene Bernard, Eileen Armstrong, Mark Payne, Pete Payne, Shawnacy Williams, Nick Williams, Tia Bernard and Josh Bernard as well as numerous aunts, uncles and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Eileen and her grandparents Herman and Mary Drewelow and Samuel and Josephine Berardi.
Dorene was an Easter Seal Poster Child as a young girl and graduated from Ruby Van Meter and after graduation participated in the ARC program. Dorene lived with her parents until her mother died in 1990 and she then moved in with her sister Linda. In 1974 started in the day program at Link Associates. Between the years of 1999-2001 Dorene worked at Briggs with Progress Industries Enclave and in August of 2004 she moved into Link’s McKinley Group Home and began working at Link where she participated in the special needs area.
