Betty L. Johnson, 81, passed away unexpectedly at her home Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Betty was born January 12, 1930 to Spurgeon and Elvene Jackson in Des Moines. She graduated from East High School. Betty was a homemaker, worked for Northwestern Bell and the State of Iowa in the motor vehicle department.

Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star East Gate Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She was a master seamstress making clothes for donated Christmas dolls, crocheting, and knitting. Betty also had a wonderful gift of making crafts – she could draw, paint, and make anything.

Betty is survived by her son, Dick, and his wife, Terri of Pleasant Hill; grandson, Brad, and his wife, Shannon, and their daughters, Samantha and Tara Marie of North Aurora, Illinois; grandson, Lee, and his wife, Niccole Rose, and their children, Ashlynn, Austin, and Lainey of Pleasant Hill; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson; sister-in-law, Lillian Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; granddaughter, Tara Ann Johnson; and sisters, Dorothy McLaren, Mary Hudson, and Jeanne Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Betty.
