Service Details

Grant Kenworthy, 35, passed away on Saturday, November 5, surrounded by family and friends. Grant grew up in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley HS in 1994. He went on to Illinois State and the University of Iowa where he played on the golf teams. After graduation he married Maura Koenig and they moved to Florida for Maura’s graduate school. They then returned to Iowa City where Grant earned his MBA. He was employed by Allsteel and HON Industries in Muscatine.

Grant was an excellent athlete and loved almost every sport, especially if the Hawkeyes were playing. He also loved woodworking and traveling the world from the mountains of Switzerland to the Great Barrier Reef. Grant was a truly amazing father who cherished spending time with his son and daughter. He loved playing football with his son and molding him into a fervent Hawkeye fan. He often took morning walks with his son, reminding him to appreciate the day and look around and notice the scenery. The birth of his daughter in April brought great joy to his life.

He leaves his loving wife and 2 children: Graham (5) and Bryn (6 mo.); his parents, Barb and Bill Kenworthy; his grandmother, Jo Dunkerson; his sister, Valerie Kenworthy Ingamells and her husband, Ben. He is also survived by his parents–in-law, Beth and Bill Koenig; sister-in-law, Kit Ziebell and her husband, Brian; brother-in-law, Paul Koenig and his wife, Lisa, and their 3 daughters, Sophie, Tess and Maisie; and many aunts, uncles, and devoted friends, and grandmother-in-law, Margaret Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kelly Kenworthy.

The family would like to thank his oncologist, Dr. Mohammed Milhem, and the team at the University of Iowa, who valiantly fought the battle with Grant.
