Carl Stephen Johnson, 63, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, November 5, 2011. He was born October 9, 1948, in Des Moines to Leland and Elsie(Robinson) Johnson.
He enjoyed fishing, outdoors and woodworking. He demonstrated a life of repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ.
Stephen was a 1966 graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. He was employed by Norwest Bank from 1978 to 1998; followed by Excell Marketing, Principal Financial, Nationwide Insurance, and finally, the State of Iowa Department of Elder Affairs since 2007.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Candi; children, Angela (Jimmy) Dotoli, Julian (Jasmine), Che (Nikkol), Jesse, Thaddeus “Pookie” (Allison), and Stephanie Johnson; and grandchildren, Jade, Jemiah, Jalen, Jaden, and Emery. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby; and sister, Janice.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the funeral home.

Stephen was so helpful and patient with the SW8SS case managers at the Area Agency on Aging in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He will certainly be missed. His smile beamed through the telephone. He had a great sense of humor as well. He was such a blessing to those he assisted with computer challenges. WIth heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.

My condolences to Cindi and the family of Steve Johnson. I grew up on Enos up the street from Steve and his family. His laugh and smile continues to be a fond memory.
May you be comforted to know that he is in a better place and watching over you.

I worked with Steve at Norwest Bank for over 20 years and we became great friends during that time. Steve was a gentleman with a great sense of humor and strived to exceed all of his customers expectations. He was a great listener and would always have good advice for any situation. He loved to play jokes on his coworkers. I know Steve had a strong faith in God and a great love for his family. I know he is up in heaven rejoicing. One day we shall all meet again.
I saw Steve again a few years ago while working at Nationwide. We corresponded a few times but did not get a chance to catch up.
My condolences to the family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all!

Dear Candi and Family,
I worked with Stephen at the Iowa Dept. on Aging for a couple of years before my retirement in 2010. He was always there to help and had a great sense of humor. He always talked with pride and joy about his family. I'm so sorry for your loss.
