Helena Calder

Helena T. Calder, 92, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Helena was born July 8, 1919, the daughter of Louis and Fortunata Cipparrone of North Bay, Ontario Canada. After graduating from high school, she went to nursing school in London, Ontario Canada where she received her RN. Later she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and worked as Head Nurse at the University Hospitals.

In 1950, she met Paul Calder and they were married on September 15, 1951 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Paul graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in 1952, and in 1954, Helena and Paul moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Helena worked at the Sheboygan Clinic and later at Paul’s office for 37 years. After retiring in February 1991, Helena and Paul moved to Ankeny, Iowa.

Helena is survived by her husband, Paul; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by mother and father; as well as six sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 East First Street, Ankeny. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
