John Bennett Pogemiller, 45, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Rd. in Des Moines. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

John was born on February 17, 1966 in Des Moines to Norman and Janeen (Mathews) Pogemiller. He married Mindy Taylor on November 11, 1995 and they welcomed two daughters, Lauren in 2001 and Jenna in 2003. John enjoyed spending time with his daughters, cooking, gardening, and traveling. He was also an avid sports fan, and his favorite teams were the New York Yankees, the Kansas City Chiefs and college football. John worked for ADP in telecommunications for over 15 years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mindy; daughters, Lauren and Jenna; father, Norman; his brother, Chris (Patty) Pogemiller and their children Zach, Cori and Lindsay; brother, Stephen (Monica) Pogemiller and their children Liza, Sara and Luis; sister, Amy (Dan) Trafton and their children Connor and Claire; parents-in-law, Ron and Winnie Taylor; sister-in-law, René (Rob) McCargar and their children Robbie and Joe; aunts and uncles, Marilyn and Marvin Lambert, LeRoy and Carolyn Pogemiller, Jeff and Tammy Lembke; numerous cousins and friends; and his faithful canine companion, Maddie. John was preceded in death by his mother who passed in 1973.

The family sends special thanks to Dr. Robert Behrens, Ramona, Carol Frazell, Dr. Robert Isaak, Dr. Daniel Kollmorgen, Hospice of Central Iowa staff and home nurse, Leann and Dr. Tom Mouser, all the family and friends especially those from the St. Theresa family, for all of their support the last three years; and directly from John, “the wonderful nurses and staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center and especially the nurses in radiology and chemotherapy”.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for Lauren and Jenna’s college funds.
