Mark Conrad Allen passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Mark was born on January 16, 1956, to Ralph and Carolyn Allen in Des Moines. He grew up on the south side and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974. He worked for many years for the City of Des Moines. He worked for DM Public Works as well as a groundskeeper for the Waveland Golf Course.
He loved Ford Mustangs. He was a member of the Mustang Club of America. He loved to fish and loved listening to classic rock. Most of all he loved his family.
Mark leaves behind his wife, Sharon; his mother, Carolyn; his children, Greg Allen, Jennifer Gilmore, Brian Stanley, Carrie Winters and Robert Winters; his grandchildren, Hailey, Anthony, Damon and Ayden; his brother, Donald (Nancy) Allen; his sister (who graciously gave him her kidney in October 2002) Susan (Larry) Allen-Hanson; his dog, Lily; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph and his grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 2 at the funeral home.

Don, Nancy, and Allen family,
I just heard the sad news of Mark's passing. Please accept my most sincere condolences. The world just lost a good man, but rest assured that we will all see him again someday in heaven.
I hadn't seen Mark in many years, but have great memories of our times together in days past. I especially remember him and I out crusing around on October 11th, 1975, in his freshly-waxed blue '74 Chevelle with the chrome Cragar rims, and Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" blaring out through the 8-track stereo. I met my wife Susan that night and we have now been happily married for 34 years. Thanks, Mark! You will be missed, but never forgotten!

My deepest sympathy goes out to Carolyn and all the Family. I graduated from Lincoln in 1975 but just can't place Mark. Mark is now your guardian angel and has gone on to fulfill God's plan. He is at peace with no more pain and his wings will get him where he needs to be. God Bless you all!

Dear Allen Family, I am so saddened to learn of Marks passing. May God keep you all in his hands during this time of saddness. Remember that Mark will always live on in your hearts and your memories. I will remember Mark fondly and I will remember all the good times we had as kids when we all played together all those years ago. So sorry for your loss. Sounds like Mark was an awesome guy. Just remember that as long as you hold him in your hearts that he will ALWAYS be with you. May the Great Creator Bless your family and keep you strong during these difficult times. Im always here for you my friend.

Greg and family,
We were sorry to hear of your dads passing. I know he has been sick for quite awhile, so he can now be at peace and not be hurting any more. You will all miss him alot for sure, but someday we will all be together again and rejoice in a much glorious place. Take care and remember all the good times you did get to have together. Those memories will always be with you.
