Stephen Patrick Genovese, Sr., age 62, passed away October 28, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He does not have to suffer any longer and is resting with the Lord.
He was born on August 25, 1949. Stephen graduated from Lincoln High School. He worked at Marqette Company as an equipment operator. He later started his own business called Town and Country Home Improvement Services. He loved to hunt and to golf.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Stephen Patrick, Jr.; his parents, Marion Sr. and Janis “Jan”; his brother, Marion Jr.; his two grandsons, Anthony Wayne and Stephen Patrick Genovese III; his niece, Janiece Genovese; his great-niece, Olivia Annette Lewis; and other extended family.
Stephen was preceded in death by his 2 ½ year old daughter, Amy.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Ave South in Altoona. A graveside service will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Aunt Jan, Uncle Marion, M.J., and my dear family, I was shocked to hear of my cousin Stevie's passing. Know that you're in our prayers during this time of sadness and celebration of Stevie's life. It's been many years since I've seen Stevie, but I hold many fond memories of him and M.J. from my childhood. I recall a wonderful time when I was a little boy when we visited your house on the 4th of July and both Stevie and M.J. bought sparklers and fire crackers for me. Not many older cousins would want to spend time with a younger pain in the butt cousin but they did. I will always remember memories like that of my cousin. The last time I saw Stevie was at a reunion at the house. He was smiling and joking with me like he had always done. I'm going to miss that and my cousin. I don't know if he had any medical issues, but now he is at peace and in the arms of our Lord. To little Stevie, my prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your dad. Hold your memories of your dad close to your heart. May God comfort you whenever you think of your dad.
Stevie!! you will be missed, and I love you always cousin.

Carol, I'm not sure you will remember me but we worked together on Kids Cafe for several years. I want you to know that I will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts are with the family of Steve. We worked together at the cement plant, and had some really special times. We drove Marion nuts at times. It was always nice to have the bosses son with you when you got in trouble. I now live in Oklahoma, so I will be unable to attend Steve's service. The Genovese family will always be held close to my heart.
