Jean Marino, 80, passed away at her home Wednesday, October 26, 2011.
Jean was born December 20, 1930 in Grinnell, Iowa to Thomas and Mildred Peterson. She lived in Des Moines most of her life and was an Avon representative and a member of the Avon President’s Club.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Pam (Bill) Dunkerson; granddaughters, Jessica Schroeder and Amber Dunkerson (Nathaniel); grandson, Jacob Dunkerson; great-grandson, Carter Schroeder; brothers, Darrel (Chuckie) Peterson and Ron (Sue) Peterson; and sisters-in-law, Jean Peterson and Darlene Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and brothers, Virgil and Dale.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown at 1 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Jean.

I remember when Ron and I drove from Marshalltown to Des Moines on a high school date, which was a big deal some 43+ years ago. Jean and Harold took us to "Gone with the Wind". It remains one of my favorite movies ever.
Jean went with Ron and I to look for our first home, a mobile home. It was called a "trailer" back in the old days! It was 1968 and we were 20 years old.
Jean was a great waitress for many years. And she was a fabulous cook.
Jean deeply loved her family and she loved her dogs.
Jean loved doing Avon and tending to her flowers in the yard.
Jean was devoted to her father and mother. She and I were together in the hospital when her father, Thomas, passed.
She continued for several years to visit her mother, Mildred, every week in Marshalltown until her Mother's passing.

When I was a lot younger than I am now, Jean came to our home to take care of me and my sister while my parents were out of town. We had a good time - and I wasn't ready for my parents to come home when they did! I will always remember her laugh - I can hear it now.

I cannot remember a birthday your mother missed sending a card. Please know how much I have been thinking of you. And how I know the pain. My cell is 913-522-8277 please feel free to call if you ever need. Time does help and it helps to know they are feeling good and in a wonderful place but we will miss them forever. So do you think they're arguing about the Hawks & Cyclones? I would hope those silly little rivals don't exist in heaven and there's a happy little family reunion taking place right now. My deepest sympathy on the passing of your mom & grandmother. She lived life to the fullest and now she can be at peace. I always remember her quick wit and great sense of humor. Thanks for sharing her with so many people through her Avon sales and other adventures.

Our beloved Jean Marino. Mother and Grandmother to all. We will miss you terribly! You were a major part of our family! You were ornery, caring, comic and loving. Forever in our hearts and memories! We love you Jean Marino! By the way: Go Hawks!
