Service Details
Harry Elliott, 103, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Calvin Community in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2011 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Per his wishes, Harry will be cremated and his ashes interred at Storm Lake Cemetery.
Harry was born on a farm in Pocahontas County to William and Carrie Elliott on July 18, 1908. He taught chemistry in Jefferson, Iowa, was a Guidance Director in LeMars, and a math teacher and Vice Principal in Des Moines.
He is survived by his son, William; daughter, Jeannette; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; sister, Helen Hansen; and his parents

I so fondly remember my teacher, Mr. Elliott when I was a student at Woodlawn Elementary. I remember his kindness, patience and gentle ways with students. He wore a suit and tie....he epitomized professionalism. What a long and meaningful life he lived while touching so many childrens' lives. May his memory be eternal!

Jeannette & Bill,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing, but must say that not many people live past 100 years of age. I met your parents in 1967 when we moved next door to them. What fantastic neighbors they were. I always enjoyed going over and visiting with them. Your Dad kept a watchful eye on my Dad after my mother passed away in 1991. Usually I would see him when I went home and he always looked great - - and might I add, always with a smile on his face. He is in a good place now with your mother, who I'm sure he greatly missed.
