Gary Lee Julius passed away at his home on Sunday, October 23, 2011.
Gary was born on September 5, 1947, to Hattie and Louis Julius in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He grew up in Ft. Dodge and married Michelle Brennan on June 9, 1978. They moved to Des Moines in 1985 where they raised their two sons.
Gary retired from the State of Iowa as a Civil Engineer in 1994. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Those left to honor Gary’s memory are his loving wife, Michelle; his sons, Kyle (Angel) and Travis (Amanda); his four grandchildren, Emma, Alaina, Conner and Carlee; his sister, Elaine (Dale) Maynard; his step-sister, Joyce Flemmig; and step-brother, Edward (Jennifer) Flemmig; and many other family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond and his step-dad, Waldo Flemmig.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 27 at the funeral home. A burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter.

I am saddened to learn of Garys passing. There are many good scouting memories when Gary, Kyle and Travis were involved with Boy Scout Troop 223. No one went hungry when Gary was the head cook on the campouts, especially when he used his home made stove.
