Service Details
Richard K. “Dick” Mathern, 72, of Pleasant Hill, died on October 21 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on February 20, 1939 in Des Moines to Florence and Marion Mathern. He retired from the Des Moines Water Works as a Customer Service Representative. For over forty years he owned and operated the Corvette Hospital. Dick was an active member of the Corvette Club of Iowa, the NCCC and was a US Army veteran.
Services will be on Friday, October 28 at 10:30 AM at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, East 5th and Des Moines Street where Dick was a lifelong member; visitation will be at Hamilton’s on Lyon Street on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.; burial will be in the Rising Sun Cemetery following service.
Richard is survived by his wife Arda; daughter, Amber Solis; son, James; nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Capitol Hill Lutheran Church.

I knew Dick in the army at Fort Walters Texas. His nick name was MaGoo, Dick, and Rich Vogt and I had some good times in the time we were together, always remember his red 59 chevy 2 dr. I know he is a great loss for friends and family. Very glad I knew him . Vern

Dear Arda and family,
We had hoped to come yesterday, but plans changed. We are saddened to hear of Dick's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Since we do not have your address, we will send a card and a memorial to your church. Allan and Dick had many good times with the Corvettes.

Arda, Amber, and Jim:
There is no greater loss than that of a husband and father. For that, know that you have our most sincere sympathy. We will miss Dick as a friend, the artist who could put the TOAD back together and make it look good, fellow CCI club member, and Iowa State fan. Club meetings, events, and football games will not be the same wihout him.

Arda, Amber, Jimmy -
I don't even know where to start. So many of the great memories of my childhood include all of you ... and Dick; that laugh, the pants that were just never long enough, that hair. Thinking about him makes me smile and laugh. Dick meant so much to so many people. Think of all the beautiful cars in the area - all thanks to Dick's skills, talent, and love for the corvette. I can still hear his voice as it sounded when I would call to talk to you, Amber. He would ALWAYS answer the phone. And, when I would ask for you, he would mumble under his breath and then yell in the intercom, "Amber".
He will be missed. But speaking from experience, he'll always be around. Celebrate his life everyday. Hold the memories close and cherish them.
My heart goes out to all of you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for the days, weeks, and months to come.
I leave you with this. Someone shared it with me a few years ago:

Arda, I am glad I got to visit with you this afternoon. Even though I will not be able to attend the services I will be there in spirit.
It is such a hard and lost time dealing with the loss of a husband and father. My love to you, Amber, and Jimmy. I will call when I get a chance and see you when I get home.
