Virginia Lou Capen, 78, passed away Saturday October 22, 2011 at Carlisle Care Center of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
“Ginger”, as she was known, was born May 28, 1933 to George Leonard and Mary Bernice Saunders in Des Moines. She grew up on the family farm in the Dawson area and graduated from Dawson Community Schools.
Ginger married Donald Capen and enjoyed a happy married life. She worked for KJAN radio in Atlantic, Iowa and for various Des Moines radio stations during her career.
Ginger is survived by her sisters, Karen (Loran) York of Yukon, OK and Sandra (Gerald) Kinney of West Des Moines; son-in-law, Barry Rubin; grandson, Scott; and great-grandson, Braden. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Teresa Rubin.
Per her request, Ginger’s body has been donated to the Des Moines University Osteopathic School for research purposes. No services will be held.

To Ginger's family,
I just learned of Ginger's death. I am so sorry. I worked with Ginger at WHO/KLYF radio almost 30 years ago. She was a wonderful person. I can still hear her laugh all these years later. Ginger was always ready to lend an ear when you needed to talk. I will remember her and her spirit.

Dear Family of Ginger--- I was a 1st cousin of Don's and thought so very much of "Ginger" We probably met you at Don's service. Don's Dad, Merton, and My mother, Fannie Capen Coleman, were brother and sister. Merton built our lovely home north of Perry. Ginger was always so kind and thoughtful of my Mom & Dad.
