Service Details

Michael R. O’Donnell, 76, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 24 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Michael was a graduate of Dowling High School and was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He entered the US Marine Corps on June 29, 1954 to June 28, 1962. He served 15 months in Japan and Okinawa, with the 3rd Marine Division and participated in the eleventh anniversary training maneuvers at Iwo Jima. He had a great love for fishing, hunting and spending time at the lake.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kay; sons, Larry (Angie), Michael (Linda), John (Chrissy), Matt (Sherri); stepchildren, Mike Stevens, Doug Stevens, Debbie (Bob) Anderson, Jeff Stevens; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (Bob) Jackson, Mary Jo Stewart and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Theresa O’Donnell and his first wife, Mary Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The family would like to express their thanks to Mercy Hospice for the excellent and loving care given to Michael and his family.
