Service Details
Raymond J. Neal, 85, passed away October 17, 2011 at his home. He was born December 7, 1925 to George W. and Avis (Delong) Neal in Des Moines. Raymond retired from the City of Des Moines after 30 years of service.
Raymond is survived by his son, Michael (Kim) Neal; grandsons, Dan (Heidy), Nick (Sara) and Matt Neal; great-granddaughter, Haley; great-grandson, Connor; sister, Bonnie (George) Schmidt; and his brother, Leroy (Dorothy) Delong. He was preceded in death by wife, Betty.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Raymond.

Mike,
I am very sadden by Ray's death, andd even more sad that I have lost contact with you over thesee years. I assumed that you had left the area since you were not in the Des Moines phone book.
You know how important your parents were to me for many years. I think about those days often, and I miss all of the adventures we had. I would like to get together sometime when I am in Des Moines.

I listen to stories my mom (Bonnie Schmidt) tells of her handsome brothers. Ray used to call her Lou. My mom said that with her handsome brothers she was the most popular girl in the neighborhood because all the other girls loved her brothers and wanted to be friends with her.
I can remember Uncle Ray as far back as my memory reaches. He was always chuckling and teasing everyone especially Aunt Betty.
Uncle Ray always wanted to know about his genetic background and wouldn't you know that he passed before I could share what I learned with him.
He will be missed as he was a very special person!
