Service Details
Alan James Stoffer, 44, passed away on October 14, 2011 at home. A memorial service will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at Jordan Creek Cemetery.
Alan was born on November 21, 1966 in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School in 1985 and Iowa State University in 1991. In 1999, he married Kirstin Shook and together they had one son, Jacob. Alan worked in the marketing and technology area setting up computer programs for various companies. He worked for the RMI Company and, most recently, at his own company, Marketing Technology Group. Alan enjoyed spending time with his son Jacob, disc golfing, spending time outdoors and riding his motorcycle.
He will be greatly missed by his mother, Linda (Bob Grundy) Stedman of Oregon; his son, Jacob Stoffer; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Terry, and his grandparents.

I have great memories of Al at Iowa State. He was a friend and a brother during our college days. Even though we went our separate ways he influenced me at a very important time in my life. I never got the chance to tell him how much he meant to me or to thank him for that. I know many people loved to be around him because he was genuine and honest, at the same time bold. His smile and the way his eyes twinkled when he laughed, he was easy to like. My prayer is that while he was alive he knew, at least a little, about how much he meant to us all. Please accept my heart felt condolences, it's with great sadness that I have expressed these thoughts.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family, especially Jacob. Al's spirit will live on within him. Kirstin, thank you for all that you have done to keep Al alive in him. You are all in our prayers. We will miss him greatly.

Blessings to Alan and his family on this loss. The men of the Alpha-Tau Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity in Ames, IA are missing a beloved brother and true friend.
Alan brought joy to the brothers with his deep commitment to the men in the house. This was a special time of year for him as I understand he always really enjoyed participating in the Gorevile Manor fundraiser, a haunted house for ChildServe.
