Bernard Basil Buckalew

Bernard Basil Buckalew of Sheridan, Arkansas, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, was born on March 29, 1931 in Williams, Iowa, the son of the late Ivle and Adah Munden Buckalew. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger. He was a retired mechanic and had a great sense of humor.

Mr. Buckalew died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas at the age of 80. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Buckalew; son, Kevin Buckalew; and brothers, James, Harold, and Marvin Buckalew.

Survivors include his niece, Shannon and her husband, James Godwin and their children and grandchildren, Bill and Tonya Godwin, Bryan and Wendy Godwin, Zachary Godwin, and Lauren Godwin, all of Sheridan, Arkanas; and nieces and nephews of the Des Moines area, Jim and Jeannie Kellie and family, Nancy and Mike Vorrath and family, Doyle and Jeanette Buckalew and family, Jerry and Kathy Overman and family, Nyle and Tina Godwin and family, and Greg and Diana Anderson and family.

Funeral services will be held be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
