Service Details

Elva McKean, 90, died Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Carlisle Care Center. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Community of Christ Church in Pisgah, Iowa. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Soldier Valley Cemetery in Pisgah.

Elva was born June 10, 1921 in Orson, Iowa to Harrison and Alta Coyle. She married Earl McKean on November 24, 1945 in Papillion, Nebraska. They owned and operated Independent Movers, a moving company in Gering for many years. Elva was a founding member of the Scotts Bluff Gering Eagle's Auxiliary. Elva and Earl moved to Des Moines in 1976. Elva enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.

Elva is survived by her husband Earl McKean; daughter, Barbara (Mick) Jesse; sister, Norma (Wayne) Jensen; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Alta Coyle and daughters, Melanie and Beverly.
