Leslie Crawford, 94, went to be with Jesus on October 9, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Leslie was born to Richard and Anna Heck in Newton, Iowa, and graduated from East High School in Des Moines. After living in Baltimore for a short while during WWII, she returned to Des Moines, where she married Robert Bruce Crawford of Des Moines, and together they had five children. Leslie worked for many years at Dico Corporation, which later became Dyneer, as an accountant and credit manager. After retirement in 1987, Leslie became active in TOPS and enjoyed swimming at the YWCA until the age of 92.
Leslie loved the Lord and had read through her Bible over 50 times. She taught Sunday school for many years at Evangelical Covenant Church, where she was a member.
Leslie is survived by her children, Robert (Allison) Crawford of Iowa City, Carol (Mike) Askren of Polk City, Diane (Ray) Smith of Pleasant Hill, Debra (Joe) Roney and David (Julie) Crawford of Indianola; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Evangelical Covenant Church, 2625 Hubbell Avenue, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Leslie was a dear friend & very strong in the Word. She was always cheerful when you met up with her. She did a great job in bringing up her children in the Lord. She was such a blessing to be around & know !
She will truly be missed by all who knew her. My prayers are with the family now. We all know that she is in the Lord's resting arms.
We will all see her again one day.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Leslie. I didn't know her personally however I strive to provide comfort to those who have lost loved ones. One of my favorite scriptures is Isaiah 25:8 "He will actually swallow up death forever and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe tears from all faces." God wants to end death, and he wants to reunite you with Leslie. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Leslie. She was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by all of us in the Blaine family. I know my Mother and Father thought the world of her. I remember she was always so kind. My condolences to all of my "Crawford" cousins from my mother Betty, brother Bill, sister Marilyn, and myself.
