Kathryn Marie Sauer

Kathryn Marie Sauer, 28, passed away October 7, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous 2 year battle with Leukemia.

Kathryn was born on June 3, 1983 to John and Mamie (Rios) Sauer in Albuquerque, NM and lived in both Albuquerque and Hillsboro, OR throughout her childhood years. Upon moving to Iowa, Kathryn attended the West Des Moines community school district and graduated from Ruby Van Meter high school.

Throughout her life Kathryn enjoyed participating in Special Olympics events; especially bowling and track and field. She participated in the 2006 National Special Olympics Games in Ames, IA and received a gold medal that was presented by Eunice Shriver.

Kathryn also delighted people with her musical abilities which included playing the piano, talent shows and singing with the Praise Team from her beloved church – Shepard of the Valley.

Kathryn also enjoyed traveling to different states and going to different areas of the country including Arizona, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Minnesota and especially spending time in her beloved home state of New Mexico with her loved ones.

She will be greatly missed by her parents; her sister, Jackie (John Anderson) Sauer; nephew, Johnny Anderson; and many other family members and friends. Kathryn was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jack and Velma Sauer; and her much loved friend, Tom Gannon.
