Mrs. Gladys M. Wagner, 80, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the Abington on Grand in Ames, Iowa.
Mrs. Wagner was born September 25, 1931, in Madrid, Iowa, to Joseph and Pauline (Crowder) Wesley. She retired in 1976 from Des Moines Public Schools, where she was a teacher for over 26 years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and Delta Sigma Theta.
Mrs. Wagner is survived by her sons, Tyree (Pam Jackson) Wagner and Jason (Charlotte) Wagner; daughter, Bobbye Wagner; sisters, Mildred Tindrell, Ruby Thomas and Evelyn Bailey; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Joe and Marvin Wesley; and her sisters, Mary Lowery and Velma Henegan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Union Baptist Church, 1200 McCormick Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delta Sigma Theta’s Scholarship Fund, Triad Foundation, P.O. Box 4706, Des Moines, Iowa 50306, in loving memory of Mrs. Wagner.

The academic success of Jason,Bobbye,andTyree was the absolute result of Miss Gladys Wagner. Her influence was so great through her children that it drove me through the doors of college. It heightened my desire for a higher intellectual standard. I never reached that mountain top where I have achieved my degree,I am certain that had I been around her presence or the presence of Tyree,Jason,or Bobbye,my cap and robe would have been hung up a long time ago. God bless Gladys Wagner and the influence she left.I will leave that standard towards my daughter Dejah Galbreath.

The Pastor, Minister, Officers and Members of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church would like to convey to you our feelings of sadness at the loss of your loved one.

Momma,
I love you soo much!!!!! I know you had to leave, your spirit was willing, but you body was too weak. Thank you for you sacrafices you made for all of your children. Thank you for your lessons you taught, some verbal others non verbal.. I believe I learn so much from the non verbal lessons. Your strength, your no non sense (plain talk). I will miss you Grand Grand Smile, and your salutes. I thank the Lord that you were assigned to me, and me to you. My heart aches, I am missing you sooo much..

Farewell my friend,
I will hold the many memories of our teaching days together and learning how to drive in your new little car, always in my heart. All the road trips we made together. What fun we had!
Most Merciful Jesus, lover of souls, I pray that your perpetual light will shine on Gladys always and through your great mercy her soul will rest in peace with you, your angels and your saints eternally.

This is Meme Shabazz, Nyo Shabazz daughter my family knew mrs wagner for many many years she was a wonderful and very kind lady. If she seen me or my sisters do something wrong when my own mother was not around would get on us as well. She was like the neighborhood mother. The family will be in my prayers
