Daniel L. Kauzlarich

Daniel L. Kauzlarich, 94, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. He was born February 11, 1917 to Louis and Diane Kauzlarich in Oralabor, Iowa.

Daniel served in the Army and worked over 32 years in the Des Moines Police Department, retiring as a detective. After his retirement, he continued to work as Director of Operations and Chief Deputy at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Daniel was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Highland Park American Legion, Croation Slavic Center, Iowa State Policeman’s Association, and Iowa State Chiefs of Police. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, golfing, and fishing.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Kauzlarich of Pleasant Hill; son, Dana Kauzlarich of Des Moines; step-son, Dr. Ronald Thompson of Virginia; sisters, Helen Sampson of Des Moines and Patricia Paulsen of Storm Lake.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, with inurnment at Resthaven Mausoleum at a later date. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
