Lois Trotter Noel, 91, a long time Des Moines resident, passed away April 23, 2007 after a lengthy illness of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was at home in Anthem, Arizona, where she had resided since 2004 with her daughter and son-in-law.
Her body will be returned to Des Moines for services at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 28 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 2600 East Capitol Avenue. Burial follows at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 East Lyon Street at 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, April 2007.
Lois was born May 18, 1915 in Slater, IA. She graduated from Ankeny High School. Shortly thereafter she moved to Des Moines, where she met and later married Henry [Pete] Trotter. Pete passed away in 1964. Later, she married Larry Noel, who passed away in 1983. She was a devout member of the United Methodist Church, first at Asbury Methodist, followed by membership at Simpson United Methodist Church where she was active until moving to Arizona. In Anthem, AZ she was affiliated with the Arizona Hills Community Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, East Gate Lodge, where she went through the chairs, serving as Worthy Matron in 1983. She was an active member of the “1983 Matrons,” a bridge club in Des Moines; bridge and mania being the two card games of her choice. She adopted the Arizona Diamondbacks as her favorite baseball team, watching nearly all their games. She was active in the Red Hat Society, being a member [Exalted Mother] of the Red Hatters of Anthem [Desert Ditzy Dames].
Lois is survived by: children; Marilyn Trotter Olson [James] of Anthem, AZ; Ronald D Trotter [Carol] of Des Moines, IA; and step-children: Joy Wilson [Robert], Jerry Grabau [Marshall], Gay Gomez [Robert], all of Des Moines; and Harry Noel of Deerfield Beach, FL. Also surviving are 6 grand-children 14 step-grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Additionally, surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Lois was predeceased by husbands Henry L. [Pete] Trotter and Larry R. Noel; parents: Bert and Alma Clark of Slater, IA; sisters: Laurine Jennings and Edith Smithhart Salvagio: brothers: Floyd Clark and Emmett Clark: and grandson, Douglas A Trotter.
