Karen Atchison

Karen Jean Atchison, 69, died Monday, September 19, 2011, at her home. She was born September 12, 1942, to Orville and Charlotte (Swanson) Enos in Des Moines.

Karen grew up in Des Moines and attended Roosevelt High School. She married Leon Atchison, Sr., on October 3, 1959, and worked for Robert Half Printing for many years. Karen enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, and traveling with Leon to various antique shops. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her children, Sherri (Richard) Rice, Peggy Atchison, Kathy (Rick) Wessel, and Leon (Missy) Atchison Jr.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon in 2006; parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
