Elmer Abel Beck, 86, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was born November 16, 1924, San Diego, California to Abel and Juniatta Beck.
He served in the United States Coast Guard until his honorable discharge in 1947. Elmer was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 2190 in Canoga Park, California. He served as Chairman of the Architectural Committee of the Star Valley Ranch Association, was an active member of the Planning and Zoning Board for the town of Star Valley Ranch, and was also a member of the Star Valley Medical Center Auxiliary as a data processor for five years. Elmer gave the daily weather report to the University of Colorado and Wyoming for approximately 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and crossword puzzles.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Liz Beck; daughters, Beth (Doug) Gerwulf and Lori Johnston (John Gannon); grandchildren, Brittney (Matt) Ahrens, Andrew Barden, Brooke (Andrew) Mallory, Brianne Gerwulf, Autumn and J.J. Johnston.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Marquisville United Methodist Church, 5345 NE 14th Street, Des Moines, with a 2 p.m., burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Star Valley Medical Center Charitable Foundation, PO Box 579, Afton, Wyoming 83110, in loving memory of Elmer.

Liz and family--I just read about Elmer's death and I want to pass on my condolences. I knew his health was not great but this was unexpected for me. I am glad that you are with your family, Liz, and hope and pray that you are getting along well. Just know that I am thinking about you. Love, Kathy

Dear Liz and Family:
We were so very sad to see in the Star Valley newspaper about the passing of Elmer. Although I had just met him last year, he certainly made an impact in my life. I will never forget how caring and wonderful you both were to me during the 2010 campaign, and I always hoped that you would be at the different events held.
Elmer was always so interesting to talk to, and had a wonderful perspective on different issues. He really appreciated the conservative point of view, and I felt validated every time after I talked to him and you, Liz.
I will really miss seeing him in the Star Valley area, but please know that he will be remembered.

Dear Liz,
We heard the sad news of Elmer's passing in church last Sunday. Fortunately, the newspaper provided this link to contact you. We are all saddened to hear that Elmer and you lost your courageous battle with his health problems. You guys have been through so much in this struggle. We really feel for you and pray that Elmer is now at peace and you are recovering from the blow of his loss. Trust that God will find the means for you to go on alone. It's fortunate you were able to make the recent move and be close to loved ones at this critical time of life. May God continue to bless you and the family and give you all peace.
