Joan E. Wainwright

Joan Eleanor Wainwright, 82, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Joan was born May 29, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Alice (Nelson) Braun. She worked and retired from ISEA as a department head. She and her family moved to the Des Moines area in 1958 and settled in Norwalk. Joan had an extended family due to her huge heart, infectious smile, quick wit and swimming pool.

Joan leaves behind her only son, G. Michael Wainwright (Deborah); her beloved grandson, Zachary M. Wainwright (Jessica Vander Ploeg); great-grandson, Benjamin M. Wainwright; other loving relatives and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Gordon R. Wainwright, and her parents.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a vigil service to begin at 6 p.m. and a rosary service to begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, with burial to follow at Norwalk Cemetery.
