Katherine E. Minks

Katherine Eva “Katie” Minks, 81, passed away Friday, September 9, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Born March 25, 1929, Katherine Eva Osborn was the daughter of Hugh and Lena (Thompson) Osborn. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High in 1947. Katie was united in marriage to William E. Minks, and the couple had two children, William and Lana. Katie worked as a Supervisor in the Driver’s License department for the State of Iowa. She loved gardening and working around her yard. Katie also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and going to Arizona for winters.

Survivors include her children, Dr. William J. Minks, and Lana & Michael Leibow; grandchildren, Valerie Leibow, Joel Leibow, Stephanie Minks, and Katie Minks; siblings, Dena & Derrold Anderson, Joan Bales, and Calvin & Dixie Osborn; sisters-in-law, Helen Osborn and Vickie Osborn; her Pomeranian, Maverick; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Minks in 2003; parents; and siblings, Hugh Osborn, Ned Osborn, and Jerry Courtney.
