Dorothy Baughman-Cleland, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 8, 2011.

Dorothy was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, the fourth daughter of William and Daisy Lathrop. She attended school in St. Mary’s, Iowa from which she graduated.

Dorothy married Bobby Baughman. They were later divorced. Later she shared her life with the late Bill Graves.

Dorothy worked many places including Look Magazine, Cimino Recycling Center, and Carter Painting. She operated the bars Mr. Bill’s Back Door and The Sage Brush.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lucille Michaels and Lois Titus; son, Kelly Baughman; grandson, Tony Bennett; daughter-in-law, Annie Baughman; and her long time companion, Bill Graves. She is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Baughman of Bondurant, Debbie (Frank) Carter of Winterset, Stan (Jill) Baughman of New Virginia, Kent (Sherry) Baughman of Des Moines, Lori (Chuck) Long of Gretna, NE, and Becky (Rob) Niffenegger of Des Moines; sister, Louise Strable of Gallion, AL; grandchildren, Staci Baughman, Jamie (Amanda) Baughman, Wendy (Lonnie) Bowman, Todd Bennett, Nicci (Chris) Truman, Jason Baughman, Travis and Keshia Baughman, Adam (Ashley) Long, Brandon Long, Alexa Long, and Jordan Niffenegger; great grandchildren, Darius Thomas and Aaliyah and William Brown, Joseph, Cheyenne, and Cayden Baughman, Tony Bennett II, Logan and Brooklyn Bowman, Ryan Truman, and Connor Long and Isaac and Cole Wheelbarger; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
