Katherine Newman

Katherine H. Newman, 92, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Park Avenue Christian Church with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Katherine was born April 12, 1915 in Des Moines to Albert and Hazel Buhrer. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934 and was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church. Katherine worked for the State Horticulture Society and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Iowa. She enjoyed her pets, growing and sharing tomatoes and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Katherine is survived by her children, David Newman and his wife, Sharon and Joyce Andre and her longtime companion, Thomas Witt; stepdaughters, Marilyn Nielsen and her husband, Carl and Linda Newman Woito; grandchildren, Patricia McCoy, Kathleen Dean, Joe Andre and Adam Andre; 10 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Stevens; second husband, Ray E. Newman; daughter, Janet Dean; great grandson, Logan Andre; and siblings, Pauline Townsend, Albert Buhrer and Florence Meek.
Memorial contributions may be made to Park Avenue Christian Church and Taylor House Hospice.
