Jennifer Lynn was born on January 7, 1963, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She passed away on September 2, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
As a child, Jennifer lived near the ocean and enjoyed playing with the dolphins. This gave her a life long love of all animals. She graduated Dowling High School in 1981, and earned her degree from Southern Utah University.
On August 31, 1984, Jennifer married the love of her life, Dave Stodden, at The Basilica of St. John in Des Moines. Dave and Jennifer had a passion for life which involved their family and friends and weekends on their boat the “Diamond Fund.” When they weren’t on the boat, Jennifer and Dave would travel and visit family.
She was a member of her local beading group and pet rescue project.
Jennifer worked as an Account Executive for Flagstar Bank for over ten years.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Dave; siblings, Ann Herrick, Gail Covington, and Brian Scheel; nieces and nephews, Megan, Tyler, and Celia Stodden, Annamarie Covington, Elizabeth Herrick, Jessie and Jenny Stumme, Kyle, Brandon and Justin Scheel; her loving cats, Savannah, Ringo, Misty, Kingsford, and Shadow; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church.

I don't know why but, Today, I was thinking of you. I felt the pull to find you Today. We worked together at Midland Financial Mortgages (Amerus Mortgage). I always liked talking with you. You had such great advice for me. Years later I ran into you at Hy-Vee and I was sorry to hear you were battling breast cancer. You were such an amazing and beautiful person. I remember you when I see a Jeep and when I eat Nacho's with too much cheese (yum). My mother died of breast cancer 10/13/11. I hope both of you get the chance to meet in Heaven, I know you will like each other. I still remember you and think of you often and I always will. I am so grateful and thankful you touched my life forever. Farewell my sweet friend.

Jennifer was such a sweet, fun loving, and energetic person; she taught us a lot about persevering and making the best of life. We had many great times together, on the water, over a game of Uno, or sharing a toddie. We never ceased to be amazed at how she kept on -- "I have this today, I am doing this tomorrow, and next week is that", always planning her next move. Her memory will live with us.
Jennifer, thank you so much for being a part of our lives - you added so much to it; we hope you knew.

Dave, I am so sorry for your loss. I am an IL AE with Flagstar and always enjoyed spending time with Jennifer at corporate meetings. She was always positive, supportive and kind to all. We will miss her tradition of bringing candy to our meetings. I miss my friend. May God be with you.

I am so sorry for you loss. Words can't begin to describe Jennifer. I worked with her at Flagstar and she always reached out to me since I was new with a call to see how I was doing. She was a wonderful person who had such a passion for life. She was so amazing!!! Her energy and fight were truly a gift. Her Flagstar family is going to miss her so much. I always heard so many great things about you and your love for her and I am praying for your family.

Dave and Family,
I work for Flastar in Troy but grew up in Iowa and as soon as I met Jennifer (over the phone) we became friends but how could you not become friends with Jennifer? Her outgoing personality, strength and kindess is apparent when you first speak with her! It was great to be able to see her in March and share that hug that you want to sometimes give over the phone. We had just talked about my son being drafted by the Des Moines Buccaneers and if he decided to play there how I had a place to stay and I could finally meet Dave. There are no words for the saddness that is in my heart but if I think of her kindness and her laugh, it brings a smile to my face. Please know that I have you and your family in my prayers and so wish I could be there to give you the kind of hug Jennifer always gave me! I will miss her dearly!

We are so fortunate to have known and worked with Jennifer. Earlier this year, we were blessed to see her vibrant and full of life at our regional Flagstar meeting. Of course, she provided treats as usual for everyone to add spice to our meeting. Jennifer was very assertive and always thought of others. She possessed a great sense of style and loved her awesome jewelry. She will forever be missed!

Dave,
I only met Jennifer one time when she was in Chicago for a Flagstar regional meeting. I so enjoyed meeting and talking with her. She was a warm, encouraging and positive force of nature. And so very brave. She was one of those people I felt an instantaneous bond with...she told me of her battle with cancer and I was in complete admiration for the clear courage she found to press on time and time again.
What a brilliant person. I feel blessed to have met her. I cannot possibly imagine your sorrow. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I have been waiting to write until I could think of the perfect words. I then realized there are no words good enough or special enough to describe what an amazing person Jennifer was and how much she meant to me. I first met her when she started at Flagstar Bank over ten years ago. Jennifer has been a dear friend of mine ever since. She was like a big sister to me, she was my roomate on any work trip we took together (even if sharing wasn't required), she looked after me, listened to me and was always there for me whenever I needed her. I admired so many things about her. Her laugh, her positive attitude, her integrity, her generosity, hospitality, creativity, and her ability to brighten any room she entered. These things I will keep with me always. I was also lucky enough to be able to spend time with Jennifer & Dave and see first hand the once in a lifetime type of love they shared. It was truly something wonderful to see. I am very blessed to have known her. I will miss her dearly.

My condolences and prayers to you all. I am not sure that you would know of me but I am yet another friend of Jennifer's from Flagstar. The first time I met Jennifer about five years ago; when she sought me out at a meeting in Troy Michigan, then attacked me with one of the biggest hugs I have ever gotten. That was her way, just like she attacked life head on. Each year around this time we would always spend much less time talking about business and instead chat about all of the canning recipes that we had to do, and when the holidays came around we always looked forward to seeing who had the best decorated Christmas Tree; which she always won. She was a special gal who let her personality shine through just like her golden trees. Her character and vibrant nature extended so far beyond her reach. She will be missed, but she will be fondly thought of and remembered in these happy memories. God Bless you all and take care.
