Barbara Watson

Barbara Watson, 91, passed away September 2, 2011, at the Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Barbara was born July 31, 1920, in Des Moines, to Orval and Erma (Doolittle) Porter. She graduated from East High School in 1938. During WWII, Barbara worked as a welder. She retired from the Des Moines Register in 1976, where she worked in the ad layout department. She enjoyed crocheting and flower gardening. Barbara’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and being at her favorite place, Holiday Lake.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Elaine Sherod; grandchildren, Scott, Chana and Kim; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; daughter, Barbara Jean; and granddaughter, Lee Ann.

Per her request, her body has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
