Florence Mary Gale, 88, died September 1, 2011, at her daughter’s home in West Des Moines from congestive heart failure. She had been under the care of her entire family throughout her illness, especially her daughter, Jeanette, who cared for her for over a year in her home.
Florence was born May 23, 1923, to Libero and Roma Pasutti in Des Moines. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School, married her husband, Russell Gale, and raised her family on the south side of Des Moines. Florence worked at the Charcoal Room for over ten years and enjoyed traveling, jig saw puzzles, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family.
Florence was a life time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and had a strong, deep faith. She spent many hours volunteering at the church and helping with funerals.
Florence is survived by her children, Daniel (Jacqueline) Gale, Jeanette Towle, Carol Gale, Susie Miget; daughter-in-law, Wannette Gale; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Denni) Gale, Phillip (Lea) Gale, Michelle (Dan) Jones Timothy Gale, Joseph Gale, and Tricia (James) McCaffrey; great-grandchildren, Michael Jones, Mitch Blanchard, Amanda Jones, Hayli Jones, Summer Gale, Emilee Jones, and Hannah Jones; brothers, Bill, Edward, and Richard Pasutti; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Gale in 1994; son, Michael Gale in 2004; and sister, Dorothy Sovich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a rosary at 6 p.m.

I JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW BLESSED I WAS TO BE IN FLORENCE FAMILY. SHE WAS THE SWEETEST PERSON I EVER KNEW. SHE MADE ME FEEL SO WANTED IN THERE FAMILY. SHE WAS LIKE A MOTHER TO ME. SHE WAS ALWAY THERE FOR ME IN THE HARD TIME AND GOOD TIME. I KNOW IT WAS HARD FOR HER WHEN SHE WAS HELPING ME TAKE CARE OF HER SICK SON (MICHAEL). SHE WAS THE ROCK THAT KEEP ME GOING. WE BECOME VERY CLOSE. SHE WAS THERE FOR ME WHEN I NEED SOMEONE TO LISTEN AND TO TALK TO AND LEAN ON. I WILL MISS THE TALKS WE HAD AND THE GREAT SMILE SHE HAD WHEN I CAME INTO THE ROOM. I HAVE NEVER KNOW ANYONE ELSE LIKE HER. I WAS KNOW AS BIG CITY GIRL AND DAFFY. I LOVED HER WITH ALL OF MY HEART. I WILL ALSO REMEMBER HER ON THE PIANO AT CHRISTMAS TIME. THE FAMILY HAD A GREAT TIME. WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO OUR FAMILY CALENDARS.I LOVE WHEN WE WOULD SING CHRISTMAS CAROLS. IT WAS A GREAT TIME WE ALL WILL NEVER FORGET.I ALSO WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT A GREAT FAMILY SHE HAS. THEY ARE VERY DEAR TO ME. FLORENCE DID A GREAT JOB WITH HER KIDS. THEY ARE SO WONDERFUL LIKE THERE MOTHER. I AM SO HAPPY FLORENCE IS AT PEACE NOW. THANK YOU ALL FOR LETTING ME BE PART OF YOUR LIFES. My condolences to you and your family for the loss of Ms. Gale. May you find comfort in the words of our Lord Jesus in John 5:28,29, "Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out......to a resurrection of life."

Danny and family,
I just happened to see the little notice about information on your mom's service last night. I haven't been reading the paper much. My dad has cancer and is feeling sick from the chemo and I've been taking care of him. I will tell you tho, that this last week you have been on my mind a lot. Now I know why. I was praying for you and praying things were ok with your mom. Although I never met her I know how wonderful she was by the things you told me about her when we were working together. I am so glad I saw that she passed. I know how much you loved her and I know that she raised a fine son and one of my dearest friends. I know how hard it is to lose your mother. I'm sure you know that she is at peace and happy to be reunited with your dad and brother, but that doesn't take away the pain you feel over losing her. She will be watching over you all until you meet again. I know you know I believe that with all my heart due to my visit from Gayle.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful woman. Although it's been years since our paths crossed, I've never forgotten her humor, her kindness, and the amazing patience she demonstrated one day in her kitchen while she tried to teach me to make wandas. I feel fortunate to have known her. I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.

My deepest condolences to my family and others that have been touched by Florence Gale. Just a few thoughts regarding an amazing woman...So much of my forty years of life have been greatly influenced by my grandmother. Since I was born she has been involved in every facet of my life from potty training (she loved pointing that out!)to little league to Christmas and 4th of July celebrations, numerous birthdays, Sunday family dinners, church, school functions, graduations, marriage, and softball games. She was always there to support my decisions and give guidance when she believed it was necessary. She saw her share of tragedies throughout her years including the passing of her husband in 1994 and son in 2004; however, through it all she remained loving, charismatic, encouraging, accepting, and probably most importantly, forgiving. She provided the leadership, love, and strength to keep our family together during those tough times. Of all the beautiful qualities that she possessed, the one I will miss the most was her sense of humor. Sunday mornings at Grandma's was always enlightening, interesting, but most importantly, joyous. Laughter was constant, regardless of the circumstances. She had a remarkable spirit, which was pointed out to me several times by a great friend of mine. Over the last several years, we would pray before eating at our family get togethers and Grandma would thank us for the joy we brought her and how grateful she was to have such a loving family. In retrospect, it is our family who were honored and grateful to have had such a wonderful, beautiful, and caring woman in our lives. We love you and will miss you very much!!!

Aunt Florence, you were always a gentle spirit. My mother would tell me stories about you two when you were younger. Thank you for coming to my dad's funeral. I know you're at peace now. Dream forever. Valerie and Jenni Gale.
