Florence Mary Gale, 88, died September 1, 2011, at her daughter’s home in West Des Moines from congestive heart failure. She had been under the care of her entire family throughout her illness, especially her daughter, Jeanette, who cared for her for over a year in her home.

Florence was born May 23, 1923, to Libero and Roma Pasutti in Des Moines. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School, married her husband, Russell Gale, and raised her family on the south side of Des Moines. Florence worked at the Charcoal Room for over ten years and enjoyed traveling, jig saw puzzles, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family.

Florence was a life time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and had a strong, deep faith. She spent many hours volunteering at the church and helping with funerals.

Florence is survived by her children, Daniel (Jacqueline) Gale, Jeanette Towle, Carol Gale, Susie Miget; daughter-in-law, Wannette Gale; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Denni) Gale, Phillip (Lea) Gale, Michelle (Dan) Jones Timothy Gale, Joseph Gale, and Tricia (James) McCaffrey; great-grandchildren, Michael Jones, Mitch Blanchard, Amanda Jones, Hayli Jones, Summer Gale, Emilee Jones, and Hannah Jones; brothers, Bill, Edward, and Richard Pasutti; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Gale in 1994; son, Michael Gale in 2004; and sister, Dorothy Sovich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a rosary at 6 p.m.
