Shirley Lavonne Meng

Shirley Meng, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 29, 2011, at Bishop Drumm Care Center.

Shirley was born July 29, 1930, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Charles and Dorothy Harris. She graduated in 1948 from North High School, and lived most of her life in Des Moines. On June 17, 1950, she married Ralph Meng.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ralph Meng, and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Brian (Cathie) Meng of Johnston and Kevin Meng of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Meng; and her brothers, Charles (Letitia) Harris of Greenfield, Robert (Marguerite) Harris of Urbandale, Wayne (Melva) Harris of Tucson, Arizona, and Jack (Bev) Harris of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
