Cecelia E. Critchfield passed away peacefully just shy of her 98th birthday on August 26, 2011, at University Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Cecelia was born September 10, 1913, in Creston, Iowa, to Edward and Anna Sullivan. She retired from the State of Iowa at the age of 75. Cecelia was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society. She, along with her husband, was a longtime member of Justo Hijo Magic Club. Cecelia will be remembered for her spunky nature and the incredible meals and desserts she prepared.
Cecelia is survived by her daughters, Cleo Dawson and Susan (David) Thompson; son-in-law, Bill Kearney; longtime family friend, Dean Dawson; grandchildren, Leann (Arthur Fleming) Dawson, Kelly (Kevin) Nolan, Patrick (Peggy) Kearney and Lori (Kurt Weeks) Dawson-Weeks; and great-grandchildren, Nate, Noah, Nash and Drew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thad Critchfield, daughter, Sandy Kearney; and her brother, Vincent Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street,. with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orchard Place.

Cecelia was one of the nicest ladies I have ever known and a great neighbor
She is going to be missed very much in the neighborhood.

Ceil has been one of the great ladies around since our family has known her and family, she is going to be missed . It is going to be hard to find another neighbor as nice as she was. I can't make it to the service but will have thoughts and prayers for the family . Please keep in touch.

I offer my sincere condolences to Ceil's family and friends.
I first met Ceil when I joined the Justo Hijo Magic Club in 1978. Ceil and her late husband Thad had been members. I did not have a chance to meet Thad, but I heard great stories about him. Later, Ceil became an honorary member.
I will always remember the many, many fun times that we had together, including our times with the late Joe Kelley. Picnics, conventions, and monthly meetings were always brightened with Ceil's presence! She was a great lady! Even though she hated the linking rings. Ceil was often teased about that as that trick was often performed at the club. I think she had just seen it too many times!
A memorial contribution has been sent to Orchard Place in her name.
