Service Details
Cristal Del Rocío Otáñez-Ortiz, 17, passed away on August 19, 2011 while vacationing with her family in Mexico. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The funeral service will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3301 Ashworth Rd. in West Des Moines on Saturday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m.
Cristal was a freshman at Valley Southwoods and a champion in Special Olympics. She enjoyed movies and provided her family with great movie reviews and updates on the actors and actresses. She also collected Hello Kitty memorabilia and was an avid reader. Cristal had a contagious laugh, a healing touch and a smile that literally lit up a room and warmed the hearts of those around her.
Her memory and the love she shared will be cherished by her parents, Julio and Eva Otáñez-Ortiz; her sisters, Isabel and Teresa; her grandparents, Mario and Rocío Ortiz; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cristal was preceded in death by her grandparents, José Otáñez and Manuela Corral and uncle, Ken Mathews.

Eva, Julio, Isabel and Teresa,
My deepest sympathy to all of you on the loss of your beautiful Cristal. We are all going to miss her sparkling smile, sweet giggle and loving personality. She was so blessed to have all of you for a family. You gave her such a beautiful, full and happy life. Without the love of her family she surely would not have survived as long as she did. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have known not only your darling Cristal but all of you, such a wonderful family. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. May God bless you and wrap you in His loving arms during this very difficult time.

Dear Julio, Eva, Isabel, and Teresa,
I am writing to honor Cristal. She has always been such a beautiful girl and it was my privilege to have known her and watch her grow since she was a little girl. I am grateful to have been part of her life. I am proud that your family has included our office into your extended family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you! We will forever remember her warm smile and sweet disposition. We miss her already, but we're comforted to know she's in a better place enjoying the company of our heavenly father, her grandparents Nelly and Jose, and of course, her uncle Ken. May God give us the strength to go through life without her and when our time comes, may he allow us to share again with her and our loved ones gone already.
