George W. “Bill” Hutchings, 70, died August 24, 2011, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Bill graduated from Lincoln High School and retired after forty-two years of service at United Airlines. He was an avid Hawkeyes, Packers and Brewers fan. He loved gardening, family, friends, and his Schnauzers. No one was a stranger to Bill.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Toni; his son Joe (Lisa) Hutchings and daughter Penny (Mark) Greenwood; his six grandchildren Megan, Chelsea, and Adam Greenwood, and Jack, Angela, and Francesca Hutchings; and his brother Bob (JoAnn) Hutchings.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents H.W. “Bill” and Mary Louise Hutchings.
A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with visitation from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

Toni, Joe & Penny,
You have been in our prayers since we heard the very sad news of Bill. We pray for your healing and for Bill for his new journey of watching over all of you from "above". We are truely sorry we could not make it down in person; but know we were with you in spirit during the celebration of Bill's life.

Hutch was a good man. I always enjoyed talking with him at work. I don't think that the entire time i worked with Hutch that he ever had a bad day. Keep the beer cold for us Hutch, we'll be there before you know it. R.I.P.

My condolences to Bill's family including Bob and his family, too. I knew Bill and Bob when we were children growing up together in the old Dean Ave./E. 16th St. neighborhood. I was saddened to hear of the passing of one of these Hutchings "boys." So sorry for your profound loss.

May God Bless Bill and your Families Penny and Joe. Just remember that Dad, Jim Greenwood, welcomed him with open arms and was ready for their journey to being together in our Lord's Kingdom. I feel so grateful to have been a part of Slick Willy's life. He was something else! To my Hutchings and Greenwood family, I love you all. Maybe Bill can help the Hawkeyes win some games this year! We can use all of the help we can get!!
