Service Details
Walter “Scott” Finney, III, 55, passed away August 22, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital. He was born February 10, 1956 in Des Moines. Scott served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Tang.
Scott is survived by his sister, Nancy Van Dorn of Des Moines and his brother, Larry (Judy) Doescher of Longmont, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Susan Finney, Jr.
A private service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

i was sorry to hear about scott's passing. please accept my condolences.
scott and i were schoolmates from junior high through high school. he was bright, quick-witted and fun to be around. i last saw him at our 35th reunion, and even though he had changed much, his eyes still sparkled when he spoke of the old times. it was great talking with him.
my thoughts are with you.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I was a shipmate of your brother's in San Diego and in New London from 1976 until he left the Navy. I was not in the torpedo gang like him, but I worked closely with them -- Scott, Uebel, Rodabaugh.
The Scott Finney that I knew was a very happy individual, ready with a laugh even for the oddest or corniest joke. He was, like the rest of us, simply a shipmate and a member of the "Tang Gang." Like everybody else in that group, we scattered to the winds after we left the boat. It is sad that we should be contact because of our shared sorrow. Regards and my deepest sympathies
