Jerry Garland

Jerry E. Garland, 73, died Monday, August 15, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice.

Jerry was born August 14, 1938, in Des Moines to David and Mary (Tilden) Garland. He was a maintenance supervisor with the City of Des Moines for 13 years and previously worked at the Hotel Savery and Flynn Dairy. Jerry loved to bowl, fish, hunt and boat, he simply loved life.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Virginia Garland; children, Jerry (Debbie) Garland, Cheryl, Barry (Patty) Garland, Carol (Steve) Drummond, and Carla VanDusseldorp; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Bonnie) Garland; and a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Jessica Garland.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
