Marjorie Burns

Marjorie Burns, 93, passed away at Regency Care Center in Norwalk on Friday, August 12, 2011.

Born November 7, 1917 in Ottumwa, Iowa, Marjorie Overturf was the daughter of Lora (Pumroy) and Charles Overturf. She was united in marriage to Robert Williams Burns on February 14, 1942. Marge retired from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in 1982 after ten years of employment. Marge was a member of Grand View Lutheran Church, Daughters of the Nile, and Lutheran Retirees. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, cooking, and gardening. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Gary) Alvord of Des Moines; sister, Doris Howell of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Corkrean and Andrea (Jamie) Laine; great grandchildren, Will, Max, and Lily Laine and Kate and Erin Corkrean; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth York. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burns; brother, George Overturf; and sisters, Louise Allison Mitchell, Betty Sadler, and Janet York.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Grand View Lutheran Church, with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand View Lutheran Church or Hospice of Central Iowa in honor of Marge.
