Service Details
Lester Leroy Hoffman, 49, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at his home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 17 at the American Legion Hall Post #731, 1511 South Union, Des Moines.
Lester was born March 27, 1962 to William and Peggy (Cole) Hoffman, although was raised by Peggy Hoffman and Gary and Mary Young. Lester was a life long resident of Des Moines and had been employed with Young Fencing for over 35 years.
Lester is survived by his son, Cole Hoffman; adopted children, J. Hoffman, Denny Hoffman, Heather Hoffman; his parents, Peggy Hoffman, Gary (Mary) Young of Des Moines; brothers, Mike (Lisa) Hoffman of Dallas Center, Paul Young of Indianola; sister, Diana Beckman of Des Moines; aunts and uncles; Tom (Pat) Cole, Steve (Vicky) Cole, Eileen (Dave) Hill, Ed Cole, Ken Cole, Sharon (Jerry) Virden, JoAnn (Don) Alexander; nieces and nephews, Kristen and Eric Westburg, Jon Hoffman, Mackinzie and Billy Campbell, Chad Standlee and many cousins.
Lester was preceded in death by his father, William, his sister, Mary Ann, and his uncle Don Alexander.

Lester was as Gayla described him ,, I miss him and think of him often we had many good times

I am so sorry for your loss.
Lester was a dear friend to me in my youth and helped me thru some difficult times. I remember him being very kind hearted, sweet natured, and generous. I have very fond memories of him and am sorry we did not spend more time together in our adult years.
Your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Lester was one of my dearest friends,I have many fond memories of him and will miss him alot. I'm so thankful that myself and a friend of mine from Story City just played pool with Lester the Friday before he died.I think my good friend Kate summened it up the best she said "I'm so sad ,I thought He was one of the most genuine people I had ever met,he made me feel so warm and welcomed at a place I've never been". That definitely was Lester he would give you the shirt off his back and if he didn't have one to give you he'd find one for you!! Rest in peace Lester until we meet again,and like you always told me " no matter what girl were forever friends,Love you girl". And I'd reply "yep love you to Lester,take care and I'll see ya later".And just like so many times before we said those exact words to each other for the last time,I thank God for that.
