Service Details

Marvin W. Ford, 93, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Born April 3, 1918, Marvin Wiltse Ford was the son of Homer and Bernice (Wiltse) Ford. Marvin served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer during WWII. On December 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ardythe Denney, to the union two daughters were born, Sherrie and Vivian. The family made their home in Des Moines and Marvin worked as a Sales and Parts Manager for Iowa Machinery and Supply Co. until his retirement. Marvin enjoyed recreation room activities at Valley View Village, his friends at the round table, Wii bowling, and was very proud of traveling to Washington D.C. with the Veteran’s Honor Flight one year ago. Most of all he loved spending time with Ardythe, and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ardythe; two daughters, Sherrie (Rick) Butler and Vivian (Merle) Herren; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Sheehan. Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Morris Ford; and sisters, Gretchen McNally and Marge Schneel.
