Gladys "Jinx" Long

Gladys “Jinx” Lillian Long, 87, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2011. Services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. on Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Family will greet friends one hour prior. Burial will be at Bondurant Cemetery.

Jinx was born on October 8, 1923 in Riverside, CA to John and Lillian (Pringle) Aspittle. She moved to Iowa with her groom, John D. Long in 1946 and was a homemaker until 1972. Jinx then worked as a secretary at Luther Park until retiring in 1987. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross. Jinx will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and spirit of fun and mischief.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mary Kay Dalbey; son, John (Susie) Long, II; brother, Harold (Addie) Aspittle; sister-in-law, Lu Aspittle; grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Dalbey, Amy (Brian) Stroud, Jeff (Lisa) Long and Todd Long; great-grandchildren, Jake and Max Dalbey, Carter and Rylee Stroud. Jinx was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Alan and Sidney (Phyllis).
