Weldon E. Cox, 79, passed away at his home August 9, 2011.
Weldon was born May 24, 1932, in Des Moines to Clifford and Florence Cox. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Weldon retired from WHO Radio where he was a radio engineer for 38 years. He then went on to work in Simulcast TV at Prairie Meadows, retiring last year, after 20 years of service. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Cubs fan.
Weldon is survived by his children, Lynda Cox, Jeffrey Cox and David (Christi) Cox; ten grandchildren; brother, George (Janell) Cox; many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Chad Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Weldon was always pleasent happy and never complained a true gentelman he will be missed and remembered often. Rest my friend I am out of state working and will be unable to be there. I will be thinking of you

There are pages of conflicts that nobody won
There are tales of good fortune that couldn't be planned
There's a chapter on god that I don't understand
There's a promise of Heaven and Hell but I'm damned if I see
There's a chapter on loss and a ghost who won't die
There's a chapter on love where the ink's never dry
There are sentences spoken by him and only by he.
Now the daylight's returning
And if one sentence is true
I will always be learning
From words left by you.

My sympathy to Weldon's family and especially to his brother, George. I have known Weldon and George where we all grew up together as neighborhood friends on 50th Street in Des Moines. I now live in Mesa, AZ and I was recently in Des Moines and drove up and down 50th Street to bring back nostalgic memories of a truly great neighborhood blessed with an abundance of friendly kids. Unfortunately many of since passed on.

Dave and Jeff, our hearts and prayers are with you and your family. This is a sad time and the hurt doesnt just go away. But we want you to know that we are grieving with you. Your loss is our loss. When one in the body of Christ grieves, the whole body grieves. Somehow God will comfort. Somehow God will cause you to remember so much about your dad and when this happens your broken hearts will smile.

We were only nieghbors but he was also a friend. I'll have a hard
time when I go out the drive. I send my sympathies and prayers to the family.
