Patsy A. Crowell, age 68, completed life’s journey on August 6, 2011, in the comfort of her home. A tribute to her life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Lisa Crowell Smith and son-in-law, Albert; four grandsons, Alex, Jordan, Derrick and Devin; sisters, Marge Granquist and Helen (Bob) Tedford; five nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, General Donald B. Johnson and Mildred Johnson; and her brothers-in-law, Dave Granquist and Art Roethlisberger.
Patsy was born in Elgin, Illinois but grew up at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa. She graduated from Johnston High School in 1961. She worked for the Des Moines Water Works for 29 years before retiring to care for her elderly mother.
Patsy enjoyed her family, especially her four grandsons and spending time with her many friends. She loved music, dancing, watching college basketball and Iowa Hawkeye football. She also enjoyed reading, watching old movies, collecting plates and snowmen, and watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. Patsy was an avid animal lover.
Patsy will be remembered for being a “people person.” She had a passion for talking and socializing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice and the Animal Rescue League.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that the last few weeks have been and struggle for you all but just remember the time that you got to spend with her.

Lisa,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mother was a very beautiful women inside and out. She was always smiling and she seemed like she was living and loving life to its fullest each time I saw her. That is how I want to remember her.
I know a mother's lost is something that you will feel for a long time, but remember you don't have to go through it by yourself, you still have the Smith family looking out and caring for you. I think of you as a sister, I hope you lean on me and let us know when you are needing help with anything. Even if it is just to get away for a breathier. I want you to feel the way I did when you were there for us when our mother past.

My sympathy to Lisa and all of Patsy's family. She was a great neighbor when we first moved to Des Moines in 1987. In fact in talking to Patsy many times, she sparked my interest in wanting to work at Des Moines Water Works. I enjoyed our many talks as her neighbor years ago. She had a wonderful way with talking to people and a great zest for laughter. She will be missed by many! I'm sorry she had to suffer with her cancer and pray she is at peace.

Lisa and family,
It was such an honor to know your mother, she was an amazing lady. Her giggle was something I will never forget. Thank God she is no longer suffering.
