Robert Leber

Robert Leber, 85, passed away July 23, 2011 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
Robert was born August 3, 1925 in Bagley Iowa. As a teenager, Robert met and fell in love with Madonna Netherton. The two were married on September 15, 1946 at a small country church in Herndon, Iowa.
He served proudly as a volunteer fireman for many years before working his way through the ranks and serving as the State Assistant Fire Marshall until his retirement. Robert had a very witty sense of humor, enjoyed loved helping others and had a special love for his family. In addition to this, Bob also enjoyed cooking, traveling, fresh flowers, and gardening.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Madonna “Donnie”; son, Michael; grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) and Scott (Stacey); great grandchildren, Brandon, Becca and Madeline; brother, James; special friends, Duane and Doris Lynch; his dog, Tiny; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Burial will follow at Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed toward the family in loving memory of Robert.
