Hollie E. Hughes

Hollie Everett Hughes, 85, passed away at his home July 20, 2011.
Hollie was born August 15, 1925, in Mapleton, Kansas, to Everett and Bina Hughes. He was a farmer in the Decatur, Iowa, area for many years before moving to Des Moines in 1986, where he purchased and operated several rental properties. Hollie was always a farmer at heart, he loved farming and had won several awards in Master Corn Contests. He served as an Elder in the Lamoni, Iowa, Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Hollie is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Nenita, whom he married in 1989 in the Philippines; his children, Diana Hughes, Dennis Lee Hughes and Peggy (Mickey) Ballard; sister, Jenny (John) Jenkins; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his beloved pussycats, Pussycat, Spotted Cat and Diarrhea. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia; brother, Glenn Lee Hughes; and his sister, Edith Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
