Richard William Edwards

Richard William Edwards, 88, passed away July 12, 2011, at the Polk City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Richard was known for his gentle nature, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Richard was born October 17, 1922. He grew up in the Harlan and Irwin, Iowa, area. Richard was a graduate of Minnesota Bible College. He retired from Safeway Stores, Ice Cream Division in Omaha, Nebraska, after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Richard loved quartet music and playing the violin. He also enjoyed listening to and talking on the CB Radio, and communicating with people from other areas of the world on the Short Band Radio.

Richard is survived by his children, William M. (Earline) Edwards, Blanche Pinson, Lois (Robert) Sapp, Leslie Edwards and Elva Hill; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Verdee Edwards, and four siblings.

Richard gifted his body to Des Moines University. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
