Service Details

William “Bill” Robert Brazelton was born June 9, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to William Reed and Norma Jean Jeffress-Brazelton. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021, surrounded by his family, at the age of 72.

Bill attended Smouse Opportunity School. He graduated from East High School in 1967 and attended DMACC and Saint Paul School of Theology. He worked as a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church, the banking industry, and Greyhound Office Center. In his retirement he enjoyed working at Walmart.

In 1969, Bill married Susan “Sue” Davis. They had two wonderful children, a daughter, Dawn and son, Steven. Aside from a few warm years in Florida, and a few cold years in Minnesota, Bill and Sue called Des Moines home. Bill enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and spending time with and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage. He spent many hours collecting Hot Wheels and traveling to nearby states for National Hot Wheels Conventions.

Bill loved crafts and plastic canvas. He had a knitting and embroidery machine. He liked to go to his class reunion breakfasts each month. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and his Hawkeye wheelchair always made for good conversation. He also loved Reba.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his daughter, Dawn (Ted) Herselius; son, Steve (Robyn) Brazelton; grandchildren, Caleb (Monica) Wulf, Cassie Brazelton, Austin Brazelton, Nathan Burns, Jace Brazelton, Geoff (Julie) Herselius, Michael (Cianna) Herselius, and Ephraim Herselius; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Norma Brazelton and his granddaughter, Taylor Brazelton.
