Robert "Bud" Erickson

Bud was born on January 17, 1941 to Robert and Dorothy Erickson. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1959. He attended Drake University from 1959 to 1962. He began as a member of the Iowa Air National Guard in 1963. He retired as a fulltime member of the Guard in 1996. During his service he met the love of his life, Kristine (Kris) Harlow. They were united in marriage in 1976 at the First Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. After retirement from the military Bud enjoyed bus driving for the Des Moines School District from 1995 to 2005. Bud was a active member of the Home Lodge 370 A.F&A.M. since 1982, American Legion Post 374, Des Moines Scottish Rite, York Rite Bodies, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and other Masonic organizations. He served as Iowa Grand Master of Masons during 2003-2004. Bud enjoyed the wonderful years of travel with his late wife Kris on many Masonic endeavors.

Bud passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the age of 80. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will take place at Masonic Cemetery after the service. There will be a joint celebration of life for Kris and Bud at Home Lodge #370 (5201 Maple Drive, Pleasant Hill) after the graveside service.

Bud is survived by his daughter Renee (Chris) Schiller, sister Rosemary (Dan) Mathews, 3 grandchildren, and many extend family and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Home Lodge 370 A.F&A.M. and American Legion Post 374 in his loving memory.
